How many Chinese-owned wineries are there in Australia?

Reportage without context is more than likely to lead to ill-informed actions. This story blows the dog-whistle on Chinese ownership of wineries, promoting actions that seek to incite race-driven boycotts of certain wineries. The article mentions 41 wineries owned by Chinese related persons or entities. What it doesn't tell you is that there are close to 2,500 wineries in Australia. The named 41 make up a whopping 1.6% of all wineries!
This sort of reportage falls into the "China is buying the country" trope that has no evidentiary basis. According to the AFP Fact Check website, Chinese related entities own 2.3% of Australian farm land (2019).
