Hi team, hoping to get some insight for a brand that my friend and I started in January this year.
The brand is called 'Bagged NZ' and we make high quality bags out of repurposed billboard vinyl.
At this stage we manufacture our bags locally in Auckland, but due to limited resources we are keen to outsource this to China.
We have a number of factors that need answering and I hope this platform might help!
Firstly, if we export used billboard material over to China, we need to know whether we would need a permit as well as potential fines for this material being deemed as hazardous waste?
Secondly, are there any places in China or wider Asia, where we could source billboard material? That would save us time, money and reduce emissions for freighting our product to China and back to New Zealand.
You can find our website by heading to www.bagged.nz.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts or any guidance here please!
Regards,
Luke

Hi Luke,I would love to help you there but this takes time as we have to dive into the industry. Will try to compile a list for when I have time☺️
Thanks Charles, I have really struggled to find a contact for a billboard producer/installer in China. Any help would be appreciated :)
If I understand right, you want to consume the billboard material recycled in NZ to make the bags to meet your "Green" Concept of your brand. That's why you are thinking about moving just the production line and exporting the materials to China instead of sourcing billboard materials in China in your first question.
For your second question, I don't think it would be a problem to find a billboard material provider in China. And obviously, it would be less difficult than getting a permit for exporting billboard vinyl
@Luke Smee The bags look amazing as depicted in the photo, the beauty of the scenery and the model really helps too :-)
First let me ask, what exactly is billboard material?
Ok so on looking closer and into your website I see it's vinyl, and that essentially you're collecting the vinyl following it's on from first use as a billboard poster and then repurposing as raw material in the making of bags. Kinda very neat & cool actually.
If there is any chance that this material could be deemed as hazardous waste, importing into China will be difficult I expect. There has been a push here to eliminate importation of waste materials from other countries. That is unless the materials, you are using, have been reprocessed there in NZ into ready to use, huge production ready rolls of this recycled vinyl (think large rolls of paper used in all manner of print).
Either way, freighting and importing to China turns into an added cost, that I suspect will make no real sense, so sourcing similar materials in country (China) would be the course to follow.
I have no doubt that here within Asia Engage network @Simon Young 杨瑾鸿 will be able to connect you with right advisors to add value.
Hi Luke. Simon (head of advisory) will be in touch to assist. Many thanks.
